September 7, 2011 This notice is to notify the members of Georgia Addiction Counselor’s Association of recent proposed changes to our current bylaws, last approved in October 2006. Only those changes noted below are proposed. All other Articles under our 2006 Bylaws remain the same. Those changes include: Article III, Membership Classes of Membership: · Modify definition of STUDENT MEMBERSHIP per NAADAC minutes dated August 2010. · Remove ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIP to remain consistent with NAADAC definition · Add MILITARY MEMBERSHIP per NAADAC minutes dated August 2010. Article IV, Board of Directors Item C, second paragraph to read · Members of the Board of Directors of the Association may not serve as members of the Certification Board of the Association, except that the President-Elect and Certification Board Chair will serve as ex-officio members with vote of both Boards. Article V, Executive Board Item D, third paragraph add · The Executive Director shall be employed at the discretion of the Board of Directors. The Executive Board shall be empowered to select an Executive Director. Final determination, compensation and benefits of the Executive Director shall be by majority vote of the Board of Directors at the recommendation of the Executive Board. Article VI, Officers Item B. Executive Director Strike paragraph, as Executive Director is not an officer of the Association Article VII, Committees Add Legislative Committee to read: Legislative Committee. The President shall appoint the Chair of the Legislative Committee, with the approval of the Board of Directors. The committee shall be responsible for shaping a public policy agenda that meets the demands of the professional workforce and assists other addiction counselors, social workers, nurses, psychologists and other addiction treatment, prevention, intervention and recovery support professionals. The committee is also responsible for promoting the annual Legislative Day at the state capitol.
