IMPORTANT CHANGE TO

CERTIFIED CLINICAL SUPERVISOR (CCS) CERTIFICATION

As each CCS credential renews in 2008 and 2009 – under the OLD RULES, GACA will issue the NEW CCS credential for a term of 4 years instead of 2 years.  Old rules for CURRENT 2008 and 2009 renewals remain unchanged, i,e., CCS renewal requires the same Forum on Clinical Supervision (4 hrs) and additional 8 training hours in clinical supervision.  Fees are unchanged.

For example, if your CCS expires November 2009, the CCS Recertification Application and Checklist sent to you 90 days in advance of expiration will show the old requirements (4.0 Forum on Clinical Supervision, 8 didactic training in clinical supervision, and supervision of a minimum of 1 counselor for 24 hrs, $75.00/member, $100.00/nonmember) to renew.  When your renewal certificate is issued, the expiration date will be for November 2013 and will require the 4.0 Forum on Clinical Supervision, 20 didactic training hours specific to clinical supervision, supervision of a minimum of 1 counselor for 24 hours and $150.00/member, $200.00/non-member to renew in 2013.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CCS RENEWAL IN 2012:

I.   Training and Education to include:

·         4.0 contact hours - Forum on Clinical Supervision

Presented by members of the Certification Board, the Forum is a requirement for CCS renewal.  The Certification Board is looking to the CCS to assist and supervise individuals in the certification/recertification process to ensure continued growth and up-to-date counseling experience. Clinical supervision by a GACA-certified CCS is mandatory for CACI and CACII counselors who do not hold a CCS credential.  CCS networking and interaction through the Forum encourages consistent services for all CCS-credentialed professionals and has proven positive for both supervisors and certification candidates.

The Forum is presented four times a year in Metro Atlanta, Middle Georgia and during the Spring (south) and Fall (north) conferences, usually In late February, April, July and October.  Watch the website at www.gaca.org for registration announcements.  Registration flyers will also be mailed directly to all CCS’s, and be included in the Professional Update newsletter.

 ·        20.0 contact hours of didactic training

Must be SPECIFIC TO CLINICAL SUPERVISION in subjects as it relates to enhancing your skills as a clinical supervisor. Training such as HIV/AIDS, non-specific ethics or cultural diversity, financial management of a treatment program, for example, are not acceptable to fulfill the educational requirement for CCS.  The Forum on Clinical Supervision attended multiple times can only be counted once during the four year period.

II.  Supervision Exemption Documentation -

·         Documentation of supervision provided to at least one counselor for a period of 24 hours within the 4 year period

The role of the CCS is critical and availability of a CCS to provide supervision is extremely important for the integrity of the certification process.  Therefore, to receive exemption from clinical supervision for CAC renewal, the re-certifying CCS must furnish names and addresses of individuals* to whom supervision was provided within the two years preceding CCS expiration.  If you have not supervised a minimum of one counselor or a combination of multiple counselors for 24 hours during this period, you are ineligible for waiver and require the 24 hours of clinical supervision.  NOTE: Waiver credit toward CAC renewal and/or CCS renewal will not be given for time when the CCS certificate was expired.  The additional hours of clinical supervision must be obtained from a supervisor holding a valid CCS.  Clinical supervision hours provided to individuals by a CCS holding an expired CCS certificate will not be honored toward the individual’s renewal.

If your CCS certificate is based on a CACII certificate, the certificate must remain current for your CCS to be valid and renewable.  If your CCS is based on licensure, i.e., LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PhD, or MD, a copy of your current licensure is required with your application.  Thank you for assisting us to uphold the integrity of certification for addiction counselors and clinical supervisors.

III.      New Fees  -

·         Four year renewal fee will be $150.00/member and $200.00/non-member.
